Brief Background

An Irish graduate with postgraduate qualifications in occupational health, public health, tropical medicine and health management.

Occupational Health Practitioner for the past 25 yrs, working in a wide range of industries. 15 years as the Group OH Consultant for a multinational sugar company, during which time he was responsible for developing and managing the health services for the companies operations in South Africa & other Southern African countries. He has served on several committees including COID.

For the past 5 years he has been working in the higher education sector 3 years at the University of Plymouth, UK, as the University OH Adviser. During his stay in the UK, he completed a Masters Course in Occupational Medicine through the University of Manchester.

He has published several papers on the economic and occupational impact of HIV/AIDS as well as on other occupational health related topics.

Presently, consulting for the MRC and UKZN and doing some private work.
